These areas cover a large chunk of the North of England and are home to roughly 5.8 million people. There are now 8 cities in Yorkshire, including York, Leeds, Sheffield, Hull,

Bradford, Ripon, Wakefield and Doncaster.

Historically, the northern boundary of Yorkshire was the River Tees, the eastern boundary was the North Sea coast, and the southern boundary was the Humber Estuary and River Don. The western boundary along the western slopes of the Pennine Hills.


The southwest of Yorkshire very highly populated with cities of Leeds Sheffield and Wakefield. The North end east ridings are less populated.

The Vale of York is in the northwest of the county.
